To begin with, if you are overweight because of leading a sedentary life, it is time to get up and running. Become active. Leave that couch and start walking. Instead of going to your local market in your car, use your legs to reach the destination. Incorporate exercise into your daily life. The more active you become, the faster you will be able to lose weight.

If everyone in your family, including parents, grandparents and siblings are more or less overweight, then it means that the cause behind your obesity is hereditary. You are predisposed to being overweight but that doesn’t mean there is no way out! Start off by identifying your ideal weight and then work hard to lose enough fat so that your body weight becomes or less normal. Remember though that because of your genes you would need to work a bit harder than others.

If you are eating for emotional reasons, then there is a way out for that as well! What is the reason behind your continuous munching on fast foods? Do you eat to get over pain and misery? Or do you eat to curb the boredom that is eating you? In both cases, you can find a hobby or activity that would preoccupy your mind so that you won't think about eating for emotional reasons.

As you can see, virtually every problem relating to weight has a simple solution. Now go back and write down the cause of your obesity on paper. Then use the tips above to fight against it!

Then suddenly, it would seem that you are not losing weight at the previous rate anymore! You maybe are losing less than half a pound of weight per week. When you hit a weight loss plateau there is no need to get discouraged as there are several ways to put yourself back on track.

1. If you think that the rate at which you are losing weight has slowed down considerably over the last few weeks, start writing down what you are eating every day. Keep journal entries of all your meals and breakfasts. You will soon find that in the last few weeks you have been cheating on yourself and eating the ‘forbidden’ foods which you are not supposed to eat!

If you have been craving for certain foods after you have given them up, it is time to satisfy your cravings because satisfying your craving is way better than cheating. So, if you have been craving for burgers or sweets, eat them! Eat a burger once a week. One burger per week won't make you fat as hell, but it would definitely help to satisfy your cravings so that you are now more focused to lose weight instead of cheating on foods.

2. If you have been slack on your exercise schedule, it is time to become disciplined. Also try to increase your exercise level. For example, if you have been walking only for half an hour, try to increase that to at least forty minutes per day. If walking seems to be monotonous for you, why don’t you try other forms of exercises? There are several forms of exercises you can give a try such as bicycling, swimming, weight lifting, etc. Weight lifting is really one of the best ways to burn those extra calories fast!

3. Last but not the least; try to drink plenty of water everyday. It will stop you from feeling hungry all the time. As a rule of thumb, don't forget to drink water before mealtimes; it would make your stomach appear fuller and you would not be tempted to eat in excess.
